Week Before Thanksgiving News Update

Tuesday afternoon led for some major excitement at All Star Movies Resort. Callers called in a bomb threat for the front desk of the resort prompting the Lobby to be evacuated and the resort to be put on lockdown. Osceola County Sherrifs and Disney Security swept the area but found nothing and sounded the all clear about an hour later. Reportedly a call came thru that sounded like a couple of teenage boys calling in to claim that Goofy had molested there son. When the Cast Member asked for their names to start getting information they reported said there was a bomb at the front desk and hung up. The Cast Member reports she heard them giggle as they disconnected. Regardless of it sounding like a prank The Sherrifs and Disney Security took the matter seriously and checked it out. Likely they are working to track down the suspects.

Yesterday a monorail being towed had a mechanical malfuntion and crashed into the Monorail Tow Vehicle. This shutdown Monorail traffic to Magic Kingdom as it was on the Express Beam. The crash occurred near the Contemporary resort. No one was hurt.

‘Chanting’ To Be Banned From The Parks

Orlando Passholder is reporting that an incident last week with an Argentina Tour Group on Main Street USA has prompted Disney ready to have Cast Members put a stop to it. The nutshell is Disney will inform the tour guides of the policy before they recieve their tickets. If the group starts ‘chanting’, cast members will tell them they must stop immediately. If they refuse to comply, security can be called to escort them out of the park. Officially Disney has not announced anything about it yet, however, a lot of people have been calling for action for years and sources are saying this is happening now in the parks with chanting groups being told to stop or be removed from attraction lines.

Return Of The Rope Drop

Kenny The Pirate is reporting that starting yesterday (9/1/15), Disney has reinstated the rope drop entrance at Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom. Magic Kingdom will continue it’s train station welcome show that starts each day. The other Walt Disney World Parks will be gathering people at the front of the park then rope walking them towards the big name attractions. At Animal Kingdom, guests will be let in to Discovery Island then walked to Expedition Everest as well as Kilmanjaro Safaris. At Epcot the walk will be for Test Trek and Saorin’, with the pre open gathering around Spaceship Earth and the fountain. In the past Disney has sometimes let guests start riding Spaceship Earth before Future World actually opens, however, that is not guaranteed by any means. Over at Hollywood Studios, guests will be let on in to Hollywood Boulevard to be guided to Toy Story Midway Mania, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and The Tower of Terror. Starbucks and the Trolley Car Cafe will be open early for guests waiting at Hollywood Studios. Anyone with a bright an early ADR can still go on to their reservation, just talk to the Cast Members and they’ll get you on your way.

The Magic of Disney Animation is Closing July 12

In a rather surprising announcement, Disney has released that the Magic of Disney Animation at Hollywood Studios will be closing July 12. The Mickey an Minnie meet and greets will be moved. Hiro and Baymax are headed back to San Fransokyo. The extremely popular Animation Academy will be closing, as will Mush’s animation show and the interactive exhibits. The Animation Gallery is supposed to remain open till sometime in August. Mickey will be moving temporarily to the Animation Courtyard and later on to his new home near the Studio Catering Company. Minnie will be joining the other characters in front of the Chinese Theater. Currently there is no information if this part of some smaller project or part of the bigger DHS projects involving Pixar or Star Wars theme attractions. The Magic of Disney Animation is one of the original attractions the park, then MGM Studios, opened with.

Selfie Stick Ban Reminder and Update

Reminder to all, today starts the ban on selfie sticks from Disney Parks. They will be looking for them at bag check. If you have one there you will be allowed to return it to your vehicle take it back to your room, or leave it with Guest Relations until you are ready to leave the park. This has brought up some questions on what, if any, other camera equipment is also getting flagged with this ban. Disney has stated the following are still allowed.

Epcot News Update

Besides the previously mentioned Selfie Stick Ban, some news for Epcot also popped up today. Captain EO will return to the schedule starting July 19. The short si-fi movie featuring Michael Jackson premiered in 1986 where it ran until 1997, returning again in 2010 after Jackson’s death running until recently. It was swapped out in April for a preview of the Disney movie Tomorrowland, followed by a preview for the Disney/Pixar movie Inside Out.

Also coming soon, perhaps as early as next week, the Innoventions West corridor will be turned into a new relaxation area. Expect to see charging stations, food & drink carts, and some new seating soon. Disney has dubbed these areas D-Zones, first using the concept in the Magic Kingdom for the Tangled themed restroom area. This will provide another area for guests to take a break, get out of the heat, and relax before continuing on their way. This area has always been popular to take a break, however, it’s never had the seating to really accommodate that many people to do so, unless they wanted to sit on the floor.

And finally, Epcot fireworks show time was changed to 10PM on July 4th.
