Wanting to watch The Force Awakens at home and save a few bucks? Well if you live in Canada, you’ll be able to watch it on Netflix about 8 months after it’s release and leaves the theaters. Disney’s deal with Netflix for Canada includes it’s 2015 movies, however, those of us in the USA are not covered by the deal til 2016 so we wont be getting to watch it that way, Starz has the Pay-TV rights for Disney movies thru the end of the year in the USA so that will be where it will land first here.
Disney has announced that the popular Jedi Training Academy will close October 4, 2015. It will reopen sometime in December of this year as Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, featuring characters from the Star Wars: Rebels Disney XD Series.
Also on deck over in Disneyland, Seasons of the Force will kick off November 16. It will also feature the Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple as well as a host of other activities. Those include: Tommorowland getting a temporary Star Wars makeover, The Tomorrowland Theater showing scenes from the Star Wars Movies, Space Mountain will be redubbed Hyperspace Mountain with riders zooming thru an X-Wing battle, Star Tours will begin featuring scenes from The Force Awakens in it’s possible scenarios, and finally Innoventions will turn into the Star Wars Launch Bay. The Launch Bay will feature meet and greets from Chewbacca, Darth Vader, and more as well as exhibits of ships and props from The Force Awakens. Also in the LAunch Bay will be Light and Dark Side galleries featuring things like lightsabers, stormtrooper armor, etc.
Disney and Lucasfilms released an official Star Wars app for IOS and Android yesterday. The app provides breaking news, social updates, special events, and a countdown to Episode VII all with a customizable layout. You can pick Light Side, Dark Side, or Droid for your themes. The App sports a special selfie maker, weather reports from the Star Wars Universe and more (full list below). The app will update daily and in real-time, pulling from official chanels, starwars.com, and exclusive content only sent to the app. Its is 143 MBs on IOS so you’ll need wi-fi to download it. While we wait for the December release of Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Disney has announced another Star Wars Anthology film. The first they announced was Rogue One (coming in 2016), this one will focus on the origin of Han Solo. Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (the creators of The Lego Movie) are working on it and it is set to be released in 2018. The screenplay is being written by Jon and Lawrence Kasden. Lawrenceco-wrote the Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. While no details are released, there is a fairly good chance we will see Chewie and possibly Lando depending on when they set the film.
Disney Infinity is getting a new release this years and some details have already been released. The biggest addition will be the inclusion of the Star Wars franchise which will be divided into three sets: Twilight of the Republic (set in Episodes 1-3), Rise Against the Empire (Episodes 4-6), and The Force Awakens (Episode 7). Characters will be Anakin, Ashoka, Yoda, Darth Maul, Obi-Won, Luke, Leia, Han, Chewy, Vader, and characters from the upcoing movie. This will be three stories and of course they can all interact in the Toy Box with other Star Wars characters, Marvel Characters, or Disney Characters. Landing this year on the Disney Dream during it’s stay in dry dock, October 4-24, will be a new Star Wars Millinium Falcon play area. Geared for Children ages 3-12, the area will have themed crafts, games, and activities including a big screen showing Star Wars Rebels as well as gaming stations sporting games based off the series. This will be the first permanent home at sea for the franchise and will also include a modified version of the Jedi Training Academy from Star Wars Weekends and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. A few details are out about this year’s Star Wars Weekends, though no major announcements yet. Every weekend from May 15 to June 14 will have Star Wars maing the jump to lightspeed to Hollywood Studios featuring guest and character appearances, special shows, autographs, and more. The only thing bigger to drop into the Star Wars universe is to go to one of the Star Wars Celebration conventions which migrate around the world. Disney Cruise Line will be adding Star Wars Day at Sea to 8 sailings of the Disney Fantasy in early 2016 in the Caribbean. Expect a full day of fun including met and greets, special food and drinks, special merchandise, a deck party, themed youth activities. Also included will be screenings of the Star Wars films and Star Wars Rebels. The dates will be on January 9 and 23, February 6 and 20, March 5 and 19, and April 2 and 16. Apparently the injury was worse than initially thought. Harrison Ford reportedly has a broken ankle which could delay shooting by about 8 weeks. Granted they will probably scramble to shuffle as much other shooting of the film...Read More
