Universal’s Little Mermaid Going Blonde?!?!?

Ok first off I’m going to say up front this is largely going to be a rant so take the bulk of this as pure opinion. The news part of this is that ChloĆ« Grace Moretz, who will be starring in the live action adaption to The Little Mermaid, announced that the little mermaid will be blonde, not the redhead from the Classic Disney animated film. This is because the original work the live action and Disney animated version draw on by Hans Christen Andersen never said she was a redhead. Disney just named her Ariel and made her a redhead, along with a couple other story deviations. The movie is being done by Universal and will be out in 2017.

Aladdin Show At California Adventure To Be Replaced By Frozen

Disney recently announced that the Aladdin stage show at the Hyperion Theater at Disney’s California Adventure was gong to be replaced by a new show based on Frozen. The news has upset quite a number of people, as while their is nothing wrong with Frozen, Disney has practically flooded everything with it trying to cash in. Aladdin will continue thru the rest of the year and have it’s final show January 10, 2016. As for Frozen, Disney has said it will have a few theatrical twists unique to the show, as well as a bunch of amazing musical numbers but will stay true to the film. It will also include “spectacular special effects” and “surprising scenic transformations.” Knowing Disney, I’m sure the show will be amazing, however, I think they might have been better off picking a different movie to base a new show on simply because of the abundance of Frozen in the parks. Let’s face it, when it’s almost to true for the Jungle Cruise Guide to joke that the ride’s the only thing in the Magic Kingdom that’s not Frozen…you might have gone a bit overboard. Perhaps, bringing the Tangled Show that’s being produced for Disney Cruise Line also to California Adventure would have been a better choice.

New Mary Poppins Musical

Disney has announced that Rob Marshall (Into The Woods) will be working with producers John Deluca and Marc Platt to bring a new Mary Poppins Musical to the big screen. Set 20 years after the original Mary Poppins back in London during the depression era. The original film was largely based on P.L. Travers’ first book of the series and this film will take from the remaining seven books. However, that said it not currently being set as your typical sequal, though it is to continue with Mary and the Banks family. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) will be doing the music and the script will be written by David Magee (Life of Pi and Finding Neverland). Currently no word on casting, though the actress that gets to be Mary will have some big shoes to fill to step into the role after Julie Andrews.

John C. Reilly Confirms Signing On To Wreck-It-Ralph 2

John C. Reilly, the voice of Wreck-It-Ralph, confirmed he has signed on to Wreck-It-Ralph 2 at the Galway Film Fleadh. While not yet greenlighted by Disney, director Rich Moore has previously stated he was exploring the possibility right after first film became a hit at the box office. The first brought in $470 million for Disney, so I imagine it is simply a matter of time for it to get the greenlight.
