News Round Up For January 18

Wow, it’s been a while, but my day jobs big project that has been eating up a lot of my free time is wrapping up. Which means news, features, memes, and more will start returning to a more regular schedule. Anyway onto the news! First up is Hollywood Studios where Kylo Ren will be taking the place of Darth Vader meet and greet at th Launch Bay. Also at the Studios there are several closures announced connected to the coming expansions. The Earful Tower will be coming down at a so far to be announced date. The Tower has been an icon of the park since it first opened, really being the logo for years till the Sorceror’s Hat literally took center stage. Lights, Motor, Action Extreme Stunt Show will turn off the engines April 2 of this year. The Show has been running for several years and was anticipated to close for the coming lands. Also closing will be Honey I Shrunk The Kids Movie Set Adventure playground, the Monsters Inc. Meet and Greet, and the Studio Catering Co. restaurant.

While it was known there was going to be a lot of closures for the new lands to be built this will seriously limit what there will be to do at Hollywood Studios for quite a while. We’re looking at probably a year or two for one of the new lands to open and quite likely more closures will be coming around the other side of the park for Star Wars. I’m sure these expansions will be amazing but I do wonder if they should have focused on them one at a time, perhaps even waiting till Avatarland was completed over at Animal Kingdom as effectively by the end of the year about half of Hollywood Studios or more will be closed for construction.

Speaking of Avatarland, it’s construction is reportedly coming along and in a couple of weeks I’ll try to have some photos to post of it as well as the Safari’s newest residents. Also in Animal Kingdom news, for a limited time starting Februaury 7, Guests can become honorary members of The Lion Guard with the The Lion Guard Adventure based on the new show on Disney Junior. You start off at some of the various merchandise locations and eventually wind up over at Rafiki’s Planet Watch where you receive a button and are inducted as a honorary member, though so far more details have not been released.

Over in Disneyland, the Royal Theatre has begun showing “Tangled” again, while over in Disneyland Paris will bring a new show this summer, “Mickey and the Magician.” The new show, starting July 2, has Mickey being asked to clean up the Magician’s studio where the temptation to becoming a magician himself is too strong to resist. He’ll be joined by Genia, The Fairy Godmother from Cinderella, and Rafiki. Be sure to check it out if you’re heading that way.
