My Disney Experience, FastPass+, and Magic Bands Oh My! Testing is Open

Magic Bands

Magic Bands come in several colors.

UPDATE: New Information

Let’s start this off with an introduction in case you haven’t heard about these before:
Magic Bands:  A bracelet containing an RFID chip that can be tied to your room key, park admission, PhotoPass, and FastPass+.  Basically you walk up to a sensor and place the Mickey symbol on the MagicBand on to the Mickey symbol on the sensor and it will pull you up on the system.  You can also make purchases to the room as you could with the Keys To The World Card, but you will need a pin code.  They also may ask for a photo ID for some things.

FastPass+: The newest iteration of the Disney FastPass system.  While previously you could go up to a FastPass kiosk and insert your Park Ticket for a return time to many Disney Attractions, FastPass+ will allow you to book a reserved slot up to 60 days in advance (at least as of this testing cycle).  Currently I’ve heard both that this will replace the old FastPass system and also that they will co-exist, time will tell which route Disney will take.  However, during testing so far Particapants in FastPass+ could also get regular FastPasses.

My Disney Experience

Main home screen for My Disney Experience after login.

My Disney Experience:  This is Disney’s new interface into connecting your tickets, room reservations, dining reservations, etc all into one place. From here you can make or link reservations, connect to other profiles going on your trip, make FastPass+ reservations and more.

Testing Information:

Currently Testing is running from August thru October out of the following resorts:

  • Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
  • Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Villas
  • Disney’s Polynesian Resort
  • Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo House Villas
  • Disney’s Pop Century Resort
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo House
  • Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

Note:  Just because you are booked to stay at one of these resorts during testing does not mean you will be chosen to participate.  Also if you are chosen and have no desire to participate you will get an RFID card for your Key To The World that works like a non-testing guest.  I believe they do utilize the RFID park entry but will not access FastPass+.

So far it’s been a hodgepodge of experiences for testers.  Some had few if any problem while others had days nothing but the fallback card worked. While Disney is fixing problems as they come up, the system is basically in a beta test and does not work 100% of the time.  Be patient and remember you’re at Disney, it’s a great day!

I’ll be testing the system myself mid-October and will post my own experiences.  So far I’d already had to get a helpful CM to fix something on My Disney Experience Account but I tell more after I return.
